COMPUTER TIPS
File Basics:
A file is just a name given to your "stuff" on the
computer. It can be a program, a word document, a photograph, a cartoon picture,
a movie clip, or even your favorite song. Virtually everything in your
computer... from the operating system... to the little start button down in the
lower left hand corner of your screen is made up of one or more files.
There are many different kinds of files but for our purposes we will cover
the ones most encountered by the average user in every day situations. The tips section of this web site are for those of you who use Windows as
your operating system, Explorer for your Web Browser, and Outlook Express for
your E-Mail program. All of this comes with Microsoft's Windows Operating
System but some Internet Service Providers encourage (require) the use of other
programming. Sorry....I am only familiar with Microsoft products and even that knowledge
is limited. What I do know I will try to pass along on the pages of this site.
